Year 2’s Sparkling Start

Today, Year 2 came to school dressed as builders. They discovered a letter from the three little wolves asking the children for help because they were unsure how to build a sturdy shelter to keep them safe for the big, bad pig. In small teams they worked together to design and make a sturdy, secure shelter using materials in the classroom. Their structures needed to include four walls and a roof. They could select from:
Paper straws
Wooden blocks
Lego
Polystyrene
Cardboard
Hay
String
After, the children watched as their shelters were tested against the huff and puff of the big, bad pig (a hairdryer).

We focused on the vocabulary:
Shelter
Sturdy
Secure
